MATT, OUR PRESIDENT & HEAD BEEKEEPER

Matt Halbgewachs is a passionate and responsible beekeeper. After founding and growing his own beekeeping business, Sweet River Honey, he became recognized as one of the industry’s most trusted and best leaders. We think Matt is the bee’s knees, and we’re honored he and Sweet River Honey joined the Nate’s family and are now an integral part of Nate’s.

Based in Beeville, Texas (yep, it’s a real place), Matt’s number one job is caring for the honey bees, and his dedication to their care continues his family’s legacy of caring for honey bees and harvesting honey since the 1400s.

“Honey bees are our passion, and producing honey in areas that are pristine, often untouched for years or generations by anything except nature, is our goal,” Matt said. “Nature Nate’s shares our passion for providing the best, purest honey possible.”

THE BUZZ ON RESPONSIBLE BEEKEEPING

We’re committed to happy and healthy bees. That’s why Nate’s Hives are cared for and moved across the country throughout the year, keeping the bees in comfortable climates year-round.

The mild climate of California’s Central Valley and nutrient-rich almond pollen create the perfect synergy for healthy, growing honey bees. In the spring, the bees thrive in Texas, expanding their colonies and producing honey in moderate temperatures. As Texas heats up and forage dries out, the bees migrate to the prairies of North Dakota and the upper Midwest.

So much hard work and care are put into producing Nate’s honey. We’re honored to care for the honey bees, and they reward us with the most delightful gift of pure honey.

SUSTAINABILITY AT NATE’S HIVES

At Nate’s Hives, we are driving initiatives that strengthen honey bee health and sustainability. With a leadership team that is focused on agricultural operations and research & development, we aim to advance responsible beekeeping practices, protect pollinators and promote biodiversity while partnering with other beekeepers, farmers, ranchers and researchers to make a difference beyond our hives. Every effort contributes to healthier honey bees, a thriving ecosystem and high-quality pure, raw & unfiltered honey.

THE FUTURE OF HONEY & BEEKEEPING

As a leader in all things honey, we’re committed to advancing innovation that supports the long-term success of the honey industry. That’s why Nate’s Hives is proud to introduce the Nate’s Hives Research Grant Program, providing up to $100,000 in annual funding for research projects that strengthen honey bee health, improve sustainable beekeeping practices and drive innovation in pollination practices.

We invite proposals from universities, nonprofit organizations and industry researchers who share our mission to build a more sustainable future for honey, honey bees and beekeeping.
